Full Ingredients
Roses are synonymous with beauty, and rose water has been known as a beauty tonic around the world for centuries. Being a hydrosol, this is a true "rose water". It is soothing, anti-aging, and hydrating to the skin.
Frankincense is a beauty tonic with a rich history. It is used to support skin tone, prevent premature ageing, and refresh and repair the skin.
Squalene is naturally found in the skin, making up 10-12% of our own sebum. It is lightweight, non-comedogenic, and readily utilised by our skin to moisturise and repair gaps between skin cells.
Coconut-derived coco caprylate is a lightweight emollient. Known as a "dry-oil", this ingredient allows us to us rich, nourishing lipids like lanolin and ghee, while still keeping the formula light on the skin. Coco caprylate does not contain the same fatty acid profile as raw coconut oil, and is not comedogenic.
Our house-made rosehip glycerite imparts the whole-plant goodness of rosehips into hydrating, humectant glyecrin. Rosehips are high in vitamin C, which helps our skin produce more collagen and gives a healthy glow and brightness to the complexion.
Emu oil has amazing healing potential for the skin. It contains fatty acids that support the skin barrier, vitamin D and K2, and is so anti-inflammatory that it is used topically to ease the symptoms of arthritis.
At Flora Numina, we speak on the importance of sourcing when using animal-based skincare to ensure nutrition and purity. We did not find it possible to source emu oil that was truly organic. However, the source we found and use inn Nectar comes from Australian birds fed non-gmo feed, raised on pasture, and never given hormones or antibiotics. The emus are harvested only after 3 years, unlike most generic sources. The oil is rendered and purified using a method that maintains the integrity and nutrition of raw emu oil.
Golden ghee contributes to glowing and supple skin. Filled with antioxidants and vitamins, ghee is amazing skin-food and is used to moisturise and brighten the complexion
With sourcing and purity being the of the utmost importance, this ghee is both organic and grass-fed, traditionally made, and is of the highest quality.
Lanolin is the emollient wax found on sheep's wool. It is known to be one of the most rich and protective medicines for deeply dry, cracked, and chapped skin. We source out lanolin from organically raised sheep, ensuring that no topical livestock pharmaceuticals make their way into your products.
Cold-pressed, unrefined nilotica shea is the queen of all shea butters, with more essential fatty acids than regular shea. With a texture that is both rich yet light and silky, nilotica further enhances the smoothness of this formula while imparting a boost of vitmamins A and E.
It's more difficult to come by nilotica that is certified organic, but it was important for us to source one that is!
These olive derived emulsifiers structure Nectar in a bio-mimetic, "liquid crystal" structure.
Most emulsifiers used in cosmetics arrange films of oil around droplets of water, rather than in the sheet-like layers of oil and water found in our skin. Nectar uses an emulsification system that is designed to self-assemble in a biomimetic way, with this liquid crystal structure. This type of emulsification is thought to be superior when working with the barrier, and is compatible to our skins nature, allowing better absorption and hydration.
Cholesterol brings extra strength and structure to the barrier, managing its permeability. We use both pure cholesterol in Nectar, as well as the naturally cholesterol-rich organic lanolin.
Vitamin B5 is a ultra-soothing humectant that calms and repairs the skin.
Naturally derived from non-gmo sugarcane and anise, sodium anisate and levulinate act as gentle yet effective preservatives.
These gums help to stabilise the emulsion
Ceramides make up around 50% of our epidermis. They keep skin cells bonded together, like a glue. They fortify the integrity of our skin, and reduce TEWL (trans-epidermal water loss). We use a ceramide produced through a fermentation process.
Magnolia bark is rich is magnolol and honokiol, which are strongly anti-inflammatory, fighting against ageing and inflammation. However, magnolia also fights against molds and bacteria, helping this product to stay fresh.
A minute amount of this AHA is added to balance the pH of the formula. The pH of our skincare products are balanced to around a 5.5, which is the average balanced pH of our skin.
Yarrow flower essence is all about spiritual protection and repairing an overly-porous aura- which is perhaps the energetic parallel to a leaky skin barrier!
White rose symbolises purity and peace, holding messages about re-instilling balance to our skin after it may have undergone contamination and stress when disregulated.
Lady's mantle has a special connection to the hydrosphere, its leaves found speckled with crystalline dew drops on early summer mornings. It brings forth the spirit of hydration and holding.
